In the Field

Our members are taking exciting, unique, and innovative approaches to fulfilling the Leading Harvest Farmland Management Standard. “In the Field” features are designed to highlight their successes and showcase the Standard in action.

Initiatives and Pilots

With generous support from the Walton Family Foundation, Leading Harvest executed two pilot programs in 2021 to test models for delivering third-party certification at a lower cost to farmers and landowners. The work of these pilots is essential to making the benefits of third-party certification accessible to farmers of all sizes and to scale sustainability outcomes across agriculture. In 2022, Leading Harvest was awarded a second grant to advance its work in harmonizing sustainability reporting across diverse supply chains. As part of that effort, Leading Harvest will crosswalk its Farmland Management Standard with major reporting standards in both capital and consumer markets. A summary of these crosswalks are available below. Leading Harvest also produced guidance for its Group Certification Module.

The below documents were created from the findings of the pilot programs Leading Harvest executed in 2021. Read more about the pilots here or watch one of the two videos below.

Growing with the Board

Leading Harvest created a balanced, tricameral Board structure to balance viewpoints and interests from leaders across the environmental, social, and economic sectors. ‘Growing with the Board’ features individual Board members to capture the unique perspectives and backgrounds each brings to advance our mission.
